4 Week Casting Workshop - Saturdays 10am-1pm
This workshop consists of four sessions held across four weeks and will take you through the casting process. Students will leave the workshop with two sterling silver rings and one sterling silver pendants.
Beginner Friendly – All skill levels welcome. This course focuses on wax work and silver casting only — no soldering in this class.
Course Highlights:
- Create two sterling silver rings and one sterling silver pendants
- Learn wax carving and build-up techniques for ring design
- Discover how to clean, refine, and polish cast pieces to a high-shine finish
- Get an introduction to the DTLA Jewelry District and local jewelry-making resources
Workshop fee includes:
- Three sterling silver castings from a DTLA casting company
- A class kit with tools and materials used in the course, yours to keep
- A Casting Handbook with step-by-step process descriptions, jewelry and casting resources, supplier info, and equipment recommendations

Week One: Students will be introduced to the lost wax casting process. Each student will receive a casting kit and learn two wax modeling techniques: the build-up method to create a ring, and carving a ring from blue jeweler’s wax.
Week Two: Students will design and carve small pendants from blocks of blue wax. They'll also learn how to properly prepare their wax models to send off to a professional caster.
Week Three: Finished castings will be returned from the caster in Los Angeles. Students will learn how to clean, refine, and polish their rings and pendants to a high shine.
Week Four: Final class session. Students will continue cleaning and finishing their cast pieces. Last day for in-class work and completion of jewelry.
Workshop will be held at art center in San Pedro, CA. Students will receive address in confirmation email with the receipt from workshop.
Workshop is non-refundable. Please make sure you are able to attend all four weeks of the course before registering. There are no makeup days.

About Instructor:
Jillian Thompson is a metalsmith, printmaker and visual artist. With over four years of teaching experience at colleges in Long Beach and nearby areas, she excels in the lost wax casting process and wax forms.
